Morning friends! Not sure how Monday has come around again so quickly?! We’re almost into February already, before we know it Christmas will be here again…slow down!! Time is a bit of a theme on today’s post as I have had to take some time back for myself this last week. Apologies that there was only one blog post last week but I had been spending so long at the computer and with my hours at work, family and house stuff and my Avon job I was just exhausted. I had a day off work on Tuesday, which I never do, but I just knew I needed to rest. It’s important to remember to take a break when our bodies start telling us to stop. I have been guilty in the past of powering through and making myself ill and this time I recognised the signs and put my feet up! I even sat and watched a movie on Tuesday afternoon – I can’t remember the last time I sat and watched a film, on my own, from start to finish!
We’ve had some great family time this weekend, roast dinner at the pub followed by a family movie on Sunday and watching Archie in his first basketball tournament with a local team on Saturday. Archie is off to Arizona and LA in April to play basketball with his school team and has been feeling pretty unsettled about the whole thing. He’s felt his basketball skills aren’t quite up to scratch and that perhaps he shouldn’t be on the team :-(. As a parent it is often so hard to know what to do for the best in these situations, make him go and hope that everything will be ok or protect him by keeping him at home? I decided to enroll him in a local club and after one training session and one tournament his confidence has skyrocketed! He played brilliantly, had some great comments from the coaches and is now super excited to be going to America. Phew is all I can say! Fingers crossed he continues to enjoy his playing so that he can make the most of this fantastic opportunity.
Anyway, during my ‘week off’ I have had loads of ideas for future posts and I a have just started working on some Valentine’s printables which I am really excited to share with you. If all goes to plan they will be posted on Friday this week. Have a great Monday everyone and a fab rest of the week and remember to look after yourselves. January can be a pretty brutal month and if you think you’ve been working a bit too hard then take a break. Watch a movie, go for a walk in the country, sleep all day, whatever you need to recharge those batteries and give yourself some well deserved rest.
Nicx
I look forward to seeing more about the Valentines printables. I hope that you get to enjoy the rest of your week and good luck with everything xx
Thank you…they are coming along nicely! I still have all my Christmas printables up round the house (oops!) so I definitely need to get these Valentine’s ones up to replace them!
I agree with you 100% – Monday came by so super quickly! How does that happen? Its a blizzard in Cleveland today (with more coming tonight)…so trying to stay warm today!
Ooh we just don’t get proper snow here! Keep warm!
I can’t believe it’s almost February! Where did the month go? Your weekend sounds great, I spent it in the city and catching up on blogging work (not quite as fun as yours!)
xo, Lydia | wheretheprettythingsare.co
To be honest my weekends usually consist of cleaning, washing ironing and cooking so it was a pleasant change to do some fun stuff! Although a few days to catch up on blogging work would be great right now!!
Yes! How have the weeks gone by so fast! Cannot believe February is this week! Hopefully you can get some R&R!
It’s mental isn’t it…it only feels like yesterday I was planning my Christmas posts!
I love that quote!!!! I pinned it this morning! I believe rest is so important and hard work too! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! It’s so important to notice when you’re doing too much and pull back before it’s too late!
I love this. I have a tendency to go go go and get burnt out because I burn the candle at both ends. I really need to remember to rest sometimes and take a break.
Absolutely…I felt guilty for taking a day off work but better a day off than a whole week when I really get sick!
Listen to your body! We all need to step back and take some time to spend with loved ones and mental time for ourselves.
Absolutely! We never sit and watch a movie altogether as a family and it was so nice to put phones and laptops away and just enjoy the film!
I can’t believe it’s almost February. It’s crazy how time flies the older and busier we get. Christmas? Yep, it will totally be here before we know it.
School terms used to go on forever when I was at school now it’s my own kids in school they fly by! Another holiday next week!
Please, let’s not speak of Christmas coming so soon! LOL. Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend :). I had a productive one, getting things done around my home. I stayed off from the computer for the most part 🙂
Lol sorry!! It’s great to have some time away from the computer…sometimes that’s all the rest I need!
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. I remember my Grandmother telling me that when I was a little kid!
Lol! I remember that one too!
I can’t believe how this year is already flying by. The school year is practically over,
We have another school break here in just over a week…it feels like they only just went back after Christmas!
It’s hard to find the balance between work and relaxation. Your weekend sounds well deserved and lots of fun with family! I’m excited to see what kind of Valentine’s Day printables you have been working on!
I’m looking forward to sharing them…it’s been a big challenge mastering photoshop but I’m getting there!
I really don’t take the rest part seriously. I need to be better about it because one day it’s all going to catch up with me and I’m going to crash.
That’s the scary truth! We don’t listen to our bodies enough and when you work at home it can be difficult to justify taking time off!
January was indeed quite tense. I am so glad it is February already. You did great with your son and I wish him and his team the best of success!
Aww thank you…I just hope he enjoys his trip, it’s a pretty big challenge when he’s just 12!
I can’t wrap my brain around the fact that it’s almost February. I have a bad habit of doing too much, not taking a break, and then paying for it later. I’m glad you listened to your body and took a break.
Thank you…the kids will be on school holidays again in just over a week, it’s ridiculous!
That is awesome that Archie is enjoying his basketball experience. I can’t believe that we are almost in February either!
Thank you…he’s a real worrier, I just want to see him happy! A trip to America on his own is going to be a massive challenge for him but I’m excited for him to experience it!
Agree with you… would love to slow down a little bit! I can’t believe tomorrow it’s already February. Definitely need to take some time to rest.
I think I am going to start scheduling in some rest time on a regular basis…not quite sure when though! I keep saying we need an extra 3 or 4 hours a day and I’d be sorted!
A sweet reminder of how important to look after ourselves as we can easily drag into our work and the hectic life. Beautiful post! Have a fabulous week as well.
Thank you!
I really love the quote at the begininng, It is so true and so rare that we are as balanced as we should be in life. I love how you used your time off to motivate yourself and get started on some great new projects! I really need to figure how to make my own printables too!
Oh my goodness it’s taking an age to master Photoshop but I am loving learning these new skills!
I know it’s so wrong but I totally don’t do rest. When I’m not working (which is about 10 hours a day), I go to the gym or for a run. My boyfriend always tries to get me to do NOTHING but I’m just way too restless! x
I would say going to the gym or going for a run is probably the rest you need from work. Different people rest in different ways and exercise is a great way to rest the mind 🙂
What a lovely post! The start of my week has been getting really busy. I can’t believe January is almost over as well! But I was glad to have done a lot of productive things, both at home and at work, the start of the year!
I think we sometimes put so much pressure on ourselves to get a good headstart in January that we end up working ourselves too hard. I know so many people that are feeling so tired right now and we’re only 1 month into the year!
Oh, the truth in that statement! I need to heed those words more fully. LOL It can be so hard sometimes when there’s so much to do.
I need a little ironing fairy and a cleaner!!
Can’t wait to see your printables! I totally agree that sometimes we need rest but it can get us rejuvenated and working harder and faster so I always think it’s worth it!
I love the quote you started with here. Lately, my motivation has been lacking and I needed to read something like this! We all need a day off to recharge and rest!
It can be hard to put all the jobs to one side and take time for ourselves. A rested mind will often perform so much better!
I have such a hard time taking a rest day because I always feel like there is more to be done. But, it is a really important thing to do and I love movies!
There will always be something we should be doing, but I reckon we can do those things better when we are rested 🙂
I’m the same way, I power through when I really just need a break. Excited for what those Valentine’s day printables look like!
Good for you to acknowledge that you need to take time to rest. Sometimes we just overwork ourselves and it can really affect our health!
Always look forward to looking at your Monday Motivations. Good luck to Archie! Tell him just have fun and enjoy himself and the game! His skills will show better if he’s calm and passionate.
Happy rest of the week!
Aww thank you Marsha! I’m sure he’ll have a great time 🙂
Great post 🙂 taking time out to rest is really important. It feels like my Christmas break was ages ago now and I can’t wait for a break from university
I love how supportive you are with your son. As parents, the best we can do is to help them develop the skills that they want to develop so that they can pursue their dreams. I love that your son’s confidence has been so much better. All the best to his game in LA!
Thank you…it’s going to be an exciting trip for him (I think I will be a nervous wreck!!)
It is hard to take a break sometimes, but it’s a must. You don’t want to make yourself sick from working too much!
I can’t believe it is almost February! It really seems like this year is flying by and it’s always a Monday.
Taking breaks and resting is indeed just as important as all the work we do! Yesterday I met a big deadline. Today I worked, but tonight I’m taking off completely to rest and recharge. Oh, and your Valentine printable sound like fun!
Yay well done you! It’s often a treat just to switch off in the evening and do nothing, something I used to take for granted!
Thank you for sharing the link to the Valentine’s Day printables! It is almost hard to believe that it is already February. 🙂
It’s so great that your son’s confidence has improved! Uplifting words from important people in our lives really do so much to help boost confidence!
Rest is so important. I tend to run myself into the ground and forget to take breaks and then I just have a meltdown.
If you don’t take a break every now and again all that work will just be work. You need to take time to enjoy some down time too!
I absolutely love that quote! I took a little time to myself last week and it was so worth it.
Yay…good for you! 🙂
So glad you took some time off. Can’t wait to see what ideas you came up with and I will definitely be putting those printables to good use!
Thank you…check them out here! http://www.fortheloveofjars.com/directory/free-valentines-printables/
Sleep all day. That sounds like a brilliant idea! Sometimes when I take my “week off” from my blog, I take some time away from my computer all together. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy any time away from the blog! I’m looking forward to seeing some of these Valentine’s Day Printables! Love em!
