It’s not really the done thing to set New Year’s Resolutions anymore is it? I am regularly hearing people shunning the tradition saying that ‘New Year New You’ just suggests there was something wrong with the old you. I kind of understand that we need to be happy with the way we are but I do feel that there’s always the opportunity to improve ourselves…nobody’s perfect after all! I think it’s important to always strive to be a better version of yourself no matter whether that be by making huge changes or just small ones.

I wrote a post last year about how to set goals, you can read it here. I always make sure mine are achievable that’s one of the most important things – there’s really little point in setting a goal or New Year’s Resolution if you know you can’t achieve it. I break my goals down into monthly goals which I will evaluate at the end of each month and adjust and change if I need to. That way I feel I’ll have more chance of actually being happy with my achievements at the end of the year.
Writing your goals down is really important. It makes them real and makes you accountable. If you’re serious about achieving something then make a note of it in your diary, put it up on the wall, tell your friends…it’s much more difficult to stop if everyone knows about it! I’ve written my goals down in my planner, I’m writing them here and I’ve made a video about it…there’s no way I’m going to get away with giving up!
I love my planner. Andrew bought it for me for Christmas and it’s perfect for goal setting and giving myself targets to achieve. It also has a page at the end of each month where I can look back at the month before and note down what went well and what I can improve on. It’s definitely the best chance I’ve got of staying on track.
So here are my goals for 2019 – they’re pretty straight forward I think!

YouTube – I’ve had my YouTube channel for around 18 months and it’s grown slowly and steadily over that time. I get pretty good views on a lot of my videos but it’s very much a hobby. In 2019 I really want to focus on this platform and grow my audience. My main goal is to increase my subscribers to 1000 by the end of the year. I feel this is very achievable but I know the only way I’m going to do this is by posting more videos. So my commitment for this year is to post 1 video per week (or at least 3 per month) for the entire year. I have so many great ideas but never plan them in time or schedule in the time to film them so that is going to change. So if you’re reading this and are not subscribed to my channel I would be hugely grateful if you could follow the link above and click the red ‘subscribe’ button 🙂
Blog – I’ve neglected the blog this year…working full time has definitely made it more difficult to dedicate time to writing and promoting and I don’t want to just stick up any old substandard content just to tick a box. So whilst I would like to post here once a week I really don’t think that’s achievable. So I’m going to commit to at least one blog post every month – at least that will keep this space ticking over until a time comes when I have more time to dedicate to it!

Exercise – I am most definitely a yo-yo exerciser! I’ll start something, do it every day for about a week and then get bored and give up. Time is most definitely the issue here as there is always something that comes higher up the list. However, I know that my health and well-being is important and it’s definitely about time I found something that I can realistically stick to. I have just started Lucy Wyndham-Read’s 7 minute workouts and I’m getting up 20 minutes earlier in the morning and running through one of her workouts twice. So far it’s felt great and I want to commit to doing this 5 days a week (3 as a minimum). I really hope I can make this part of my lifestyle because it makes such a good start to the day.

Organising my day – Now that I work full time at home, organising my time is so important. I am now using my planner to plan out my day by the 1/2 hour. It might sound very structured but that’s absolutely what I need to ensure I do my job efficiently and also allow myself time for breaks/dog walking/cleaning/writing and filming! I’ve also started following Team TOMM (The Organised Mum Method) to make keeping on top of the housework a lot easier and preventing me going into every weekend with a filthy messy house and piles of washing and ironing! If you haven’t heard about TOMM then definitely check it out – it’s a game changer!
Organising the children – I have been meaning to write a timetable for the kids for months so that they know what jobs/chores etc they have to do and when and to stop me having to constantly nag and remind them. Things I include are making their beds, tidying their rooms, music practice, homework etc. It’s so much easier knowing that all these things just get done without me having to remember to remind them!
Time will tell whether I manage all these resolutions but I am motivated to succeed and know I can tweak them each month to ensure they remain achievable and not demotivating. Have you made any resolutions or goals for 2019? Comment below and let me know what you’re planning to achieve!
I’ve also made a video about my resolutions…here it is!
