Happy Monday! I hope you’ve had a relaxing and restful weekend. As always, ours has been hectic and action packed! It’s a short post from me today as I need to stop! Our weeks are so ridiculously busy, there’s not a day in the where either one or both of the children are not engaged in some sort of extra curricular activity which means driving all over town dropping off and picking up and there is just so little time for anything else. Our weekends have just become a series of jobs, rushing from one thing to the next and I wonder where the days went when we could site down, make time to relax and recharge our batteries.
Andrew just said to me the other day, when I was working on my laptop in the evening, “I thought you’d have finished your work today as you’ve been at home all day”. He wasn’t being rude, simply stating what he thought would be a fact. But work never seems to stop. I remember, once upon a time, I used to be able to sit down at a weekend or in an evening and think…”that’s it, everything is finished!” but nowadays there is always something that needs to be done. It got me wondering whether this is the same for everyone or if I am just making life hard for myself? I know only too well that you can’t always believe what you read and see on social media but other families seem to just have more time! I see people sitting watching a film on a Sunday or going out for lunch and I wonder where those days went. Our Sunday is filled with a swimming lesson, homework, music practice, football matches, a food shop, washing, ironing and working.
I think what it boils down to is planning and organisation. Our Sunday, this weekend, was particularly busy as Phoebe and I spent Saturday in London with friends (and what a lovely time we had too!). We are off down to Devon for a long weekend in 2 weeks time so, in order to relax and put our feet up that weekend, I will have to work doubly hard in the days before to make sure all the jobs are done. However, it might be time to take stock, look at our lives and find out if there’s anything that can be given up, moved aside or contracted out! At the end of the day we’re not machines, we can’t do everything and we all have to make time to relax! I’m never going to cross off any of the items on my Autumn Bucket list at the rate we are going!
Have a great week…and whenever you can, put your feet up and make time for you!
