Good morning! I hope you’re all enjoying the very welcome 3 day weekend? If it’s not bank holiday where you are then commiserations – it’s an extra day off here and it’s actually hot and sunny! I cannot remember the last time that the sun shone all weekend on a bank holiday. As my quote today states, it doesn’t get better than flip flop weather!
I really don’t feel the need to impart motivational wisdom today as most people reading this will be looking forward to a day off in the sunshine. But should you need that extra boost on this Monday morning then I thought I would focus on the benefits this sunshine brings us. No matter what I am doing it is always easier when the sun is shining so here are my top 5 reasons to get out and enjoy the sunshine whenever you can.
-
Vitamin D
We get our Vitamin D from the sun and it has a whole host of health benefits. From giving us healthy bones to reducing the risk of cancer, vitamin D is something we simply can’t live without. All you need to do to get your recommended daily dose of vitamin D is bask in those rays – a perfect excuse to put your feet up in the garden I say

Mood lifting
The sun increases our levels of serotonin – the happy hormone and that’s why we feel happier in the Summer months. Waking up to the sun streaming through our windows goes a long way to putting us in a good frame of mind to start the day. Our mood will tend to get better as the day goes on if the sun is out and we’re able to spend some time in it! If you’re feeling low and things have been getting on top of you, go for a long walk in the sunshine – you will end up feeling lighter and more able to deal with life.

Life is easier
How much easier does everything feel when it’s warm and sunny? It doesn’t matter what jobs I have to do, they always seem a little more pleasurable when the sun is streaming in through the window and I can hear the birds singing in the trees.

You’ll have more energy
The sun reduces the levels of the hormone melatonin. Having less melatonin in our body gives us more get up and go. So in the Summer we generally need less sleep and feel more alive when we do get up! I actually experienced this first hand this weekend when I did my usual 10am Avon deliveries. Usually at 10am on a Sunday morning everyone answers the door bleary eyed in their PJs! However, this Sunday morning everyone was up, dressed and ready for the day!

It’s a disease buster!
The sun helps our bodies fight numerous diseases from cancer and heart disease to arthritis and skin conditions. The sun is an amazing thing and regular exposure to it fills our bodies with all the things we need to help stay healthy.
Obviously remember to protect your skin when you’re in the sun but enjoy it while it lasts! You’ll feel so much better for it!
